Continental Waste
IMG_5628.JPG

Acrylic paint. woodlock. paper. vinyl. pen;

24' * 32'

This is a mixed-media artwork depicting a world map with an unusual and layered texture. The continents are represented using a collage of various colored plastic and illustrations, resembling an amalgamation of different types of discarded waste in our ocean. I depicted the surface of the ocean with vibrant colors to symbolize the clutter and chaos of human impact. I attached clear plastic and vinyl around the edges of the artwork to further emphasize the theme of pollution or environmental degradation.

Mugunghwa and the Flag

Oil Painting;

18' * 24'

Mugunghwa is the national flower of South Korea and I wanted to explore the national symbols by having the national flag in the background. While I am a US citizen, I spent most of my life in Korea and it's important for me to study and maintain my close ties to my Korean heritage.

Suwon Castle

Oil Painting;

18' * 24'

Suwon castle is one of the oldest remaining defense walls in South Korea. I wanted to recreate a historical scene from Josun dynasty to highlight how the physical structure can connect the present to the past and an important reminder of our heritage.
